Sarah Kinsinger, PhD, ABPP is an academic health psychologist specializing in behavioral interventions for gastrointestinal disorders. She is Professor of Medicine for Loyola University Medical Center and Director of Behavioral Medicine for Digestive Health. Prior to this, she directed the GI Behavioral Medicine Program in the Division of Gastroenterology at Northwestern’s Feinberg School of Medicine, one of the first fully integrated GI Psychology programs in the nation. She received her doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of Miami and completed a health psychology fellowship at the University of Illinois Medical Center at Chicago. Dr. Kinsinger is a certified cognitive therapist by the Academy of Cognitive Therapy and board certified in Clinical Health Psychology.
Dr. Kinsinger’s research and clinical interests focus on the use of brain-gut behavior therapies to improve outcomes for patients with chronic digestive disorders, such as irritable bowel syndrome, functional dyspepsia, esophageal conditions, and inflammatory bowel disease. Dr. Kinsinger is passionate about the dissemination of psychosocial GI care and is dedicated to training mental health providers in evidence-based behavioral interventions for digestive disorders. Dr. Kinsinger Co-Chairs the Rome Foundation Psychogastroenterology section, the first international organization dedicated to enhance and promote the science and practice of psychosocial GI care, and she is the Chair of the GastroPsych Education and Training committee which has developed over 30 hours of on-demand continuing education resources for GastroPsych providers.
