The key opinion leaders in DGBI listed below participated in a 1 ½ day DrossmanCare Train the Trainer program to learn communication and facilitation skills and are certified to be faculty in future educational programs.

  • Darren Brenner, MD, Faculty: Dr. Brenner is a Professor of Medicine at Northwestern University, Feinberg School of Medicine in Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Surgery. Dr. Brenner focuses on gastrointestinal motility disorders and pelvic floor disorders. Dr. Brenner is a Rome V Design of Treatment Trial Committee member and a Rome Foundation Clinical Fellow.
  • Brooks Cash, MD, Faculty: Dr. Cash is the chief of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition at UT Health Science Center at Houston/Memorial Hermann, Houston, TX. Dr. Cash is a frequent faculty presenter for AGA and ACG and is an expert in gut/brain interaction disorders. Dr. Cash has conducted live and online webinars on the value of improved patient/provider communications to improve patient outcomes.
  • William D. Chey, MD, Faculty: Dr. Chey is a member of the Rome Foundation Board of Directors and Director of the GI Nutrition Behavioral and Wellness Program at the University of Michigan Health System. He has participated as a faculty member for several Communication skills programs.
  • Jill Deutsch, MD, Faculty: Dr Deutsch is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Yale University in Digestive Diseases, Director of the Yale Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders Program, and Medical Director of the GI Motility Laboratory. Dr. Deutsch specializes in Disorders of Gut-Brain Interaction and working with patients in a collaborative framework. She served as a member of the Rome Foundation Working Team Report on Effective Communication Skills.
  • Ronnie Fass, MD, Faculty: Dr. Fass is a Professor of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and Division Director and Medical Director of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, at Digestive Health Center at Metro Health in Cleveland, OH. Dr. Fass was Chair of the Rome IV Esophagel Committee and is a Rome Foundation Fellow.
  • Jeanetta Frye, MD, Faculty: Dr. Frye is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Virginia School of Medicine is Gastroenterology and Hepatology. She has a special interest in working with patients with Disorders of Gut-Brain Interaction and Motility Disorders and the importance of effective communication skills in improving clinical outcomes.
  • Madhu Grover, MBBS, Faculty: Dr. Grover is a Consultant Gastroenterologist in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Department of Internal Medicine at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Dr. Grover has served on a number of Rome Foundation Working Teams and is the chair of the Rome Foundation’s Research Institute Biometry Core. In addition, he is Co-Chair of the Rome V Intestinal Microenvironment Committee and is a Rome Foundation Academic Fellow.
  • Lucinda Harris, MD, Faculty: Dr. Harris is a Professor of Medicine at Mayo Clinic School of Medicine in Arizona. Dr. Harris is a trained motility expert, was a Visiting Scholar in Communication, and has participated as faculty for the Rome Foundation CME educational programs.
  • Laurie Keefer PhD, Faculty: Dr. Keefer is a clinical psychologist at Mt Sinai School of Medicine, a member of the Rome Foundation Board of Directors, and co-director of the Rome Foundation’s Psychogastroenterology Section. She has been primarily responsible for educating gastroenterologists and other clinicians on using behavioral interventions for DGBI. Dr. Keefer will serve as a faculty facilitator and will contribute to developing educational modules to help clinicians learn how to communicate with patients on behavioral intervention.
  • Sarah Kinsinger, PhD, ABPP-, Faculty: Dr. Kinsinger is a Clinical Health Psychologist and Associate Professor of Medicine at Loyola University Medical Center Division of Gastroenterology & Nutrition. Dr. Kinsinger works with GI patients helping them to utilize psychological therapies to manage their symptoms and chronic pain. She is the co-chair of the Rome Foundation Gastro-Psychology Committee and a faculty member for Rome Foundation’s regional educational programs for Primary Care, Nurse Practitioners, and Physician Assistants in 2018-2020.
  • Anthony Lembo, MD, Faculty: Dr. Lembo is a gastroenterologist at Beth Israel Medical Center in Boston and coordinates the program in DGBI. He was a member of the Rome IV committee on Bowel Disorders and is conducting research on the patient provider relationship.
  • Susan Lucak, MD, Faculty: Dr. Lucak is Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine and Special Lecturer at Columbia University Medical Center as well as Attending Physician at Lenox Hill Hospital. Dr. Lucak was a Visiting Scholar in Communication and works with a diverse GI patient population and with highly challenging patient situations.
  • Baha Moshiree, MD, Faculty: Dr. Moshiree is Professor of Medicine at Wake Forest University School of Medicine and Faculty at Wake Forest Atrium Health. Her focus is on neurogastroenteroloogy and motility disorders. She has served as faculty for Rome’s Grand Rounds session on Gastroparesis and is a Rome Foundation Clinical Fellow.
  • Linda Nguyen, MD, Faculty: Dr. Nguyen is a Professor of Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine in Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Chief of the Digestive Health Center, and Director of the GI Motility and Neurogastroenterology Division. She specializes in motility disorders such as Gastroparesis, with a special focus on patient-centered care. Dr. Nguyen is a member of the Rome Gastroparesis Consensus Group working on a 2023 motility consensus document on Functional Dyspepsia and Gastroparesis.
  • Sam Nurko, MD, Faculty: Dr. Nurko is a pediatric gastroenterologist and a member of the Rome Foundation Board of Directors. He is the Director of the Center for Motility and Functional GI Disorders at Harvard Medical School. Sam Nurko, MD, Faculty. He has been very active in educating pediatric providers and mental health specialists. He will serve as a faculty facilitator developing pediatric programs, and faculty member in future symposia and workshops.
  • Anne Peery, MD, Faculty: Dr. Perry is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill School of Medicine in Gastroenterology and Hepatology and is Director of the Adult Inpatient Nutrition Support Team. Dr. Peery focuses on the most complicated patients with gastrointestinal disorders and leads the UNC GI Fellow Communication Training Programming to help fellows learn how to improve their patient care.
  • Greg Sayuk, MD, Faculty: Dr. Sayuk is an Associate Professor of Medicine and Psychiatry at the Washington University School of Medicine. He is an expert in the pathophysiology of motility disorders, using central neuromodulators and treating the psychosocial components of DGBI.
  • Magnus Simren, MD, PhD: Faculty – Dr. Simren is a Professor and Senior Consultant for the Dept of Internal Medicine & Clinical Nutrition at the University of Gothenburg, in Gothenburg, Sweden and is Adjunct Professor of Medicine at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill, NC. He is a member of the Rome Foundation Board of Directors and the Research Director of the Rome Foundation Research Institute. Dr. Simren also serves as the Secretary General of the UEG in Europe and will be a key part of our global efforts in teaching these communication skills.
  • Andrea Shin, MD-, Faculty: Dr. Shin is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Indiana University School of Medicine within the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology with a special interest in disorders of gut-brain interaction (DGBI) and gastrointestinal motility. Dr. Shin serves as a member of the Rome V Bowel Committee.
  • Jan Tack, MD, Faculty: Dr. Tack is the President of the Rome Foundation and is GI program director at University Hospital in Leuven and the Translational Research Center for GI disorders (TARGID). He is internationally recognized for his research and clinical expertise in DGBI and he will serve as a faculty member for symposia and workshops relating to this program.
