Magnus Simr\u00e9n, MD, PhD<\/h2>\nMagnus Simr\u00e9n, MD, PhD<\/h2>\nDoctor Magnus Simr\u00e9n is working as Consultant in the Department of Internal Medicine, Sahlgrenska University Hospital, G\u00f6teborg, Sweden, and is Professor in Gastroenterology at the Department of Internal Medicine, Institute of Medicine, Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg. Doctor Simr\u00e9n has a 50% research position in Molecular Gastroenterology at the Swedish Research Council 2011-2016.<\/p>\n
He graduated from medical school, University of Gothenburg in 1991, and afterwards completed his internship and fellowship in internal medicine at the County Hospital of Lidk\u00f6ping. From 1998 to 1999, Doctor Simr\u00e9n completed his fellowship in gastroenterology at Sahlgrenska University Hospital. He defended his thesis entitled Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Pathophysiological and clinical aspects in 2001. He was a research fellow at the University of Leuven, Belgium, in 2002, working with Professors Jan Tack and Daniel Sifrim, focusing on the pathophysiology of functional dyspepsia and GERD
\nDoctor Simr\u00e9n is now a principal researcher in the GI Motility Unit at Sahlgrenska University Hospital. His main research areas are the pathogenesis and pathophysiology of functional GI disorders, as well as the treatment of these disorders and the importance of psychological factors. He has published more than 90 original articles and also written book chapters on GI motility diseases and functional GI disorders, and is currently supervisor for eight PhD students. Doctor Simr\u00e9n has been the President of the Scandinavian Association for Gastrointestinal Motility (SAGIM), Scientific Secretary to the Swedish Society of Gastroenterology, and is currently a member of the steering
\ncommittee of the European Society of Neurogastroenterology and Motility (ESNM), a councilor of the American Neurogastroenterology and Motility Society\/Functional Brain Gut Research Group (ANMS\/FBG), and of the Association of National European and Mediterranean Societies of Gastroenterology (ASNEMGE), as well as a member of the United European Gastroenterology Federation (UEGF) Scientific Committee. He has been working as Deputy Editor and Associate Editor of Gut, and will from 2012 be the Clinical Editor of Neurogastroenterology and Motiliy. He is also currently a member of the editorial board of Gut, Clinical and Experimental Gastroenterology and Frontiers in Enteric Neuroscience, and a member of the journal management committee of Neurogastroenterology and Motility. In 2006 Doctor Simr\u00e9n received the Rising Star Award from the Association of National European and Mediterranean Societies of Gastroenterology (ASNEMGE) and in 2007 a research award from the International Foundation for Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
